Jakob Bill (born 1942 in Zurich) is an avowed proponent of concrete painting. The geometrical canon of forms, issues of proportion, of scale and numerical ratios, the preoccupation with reduction, progression, rhythm and logic – these are all themes which characterize the content of his work. This is combined with a particular painterly handling of the lyrical aspects of color, which lend the stringency of his composition a poetic, transparent dimension. On the occasion of Jakob Bill’s 70th birthday, Museum Haus Konstructiv is honoring his complex painterly oeuvre, which has consistently developed from the end of the 1950s to this day and which, in a refreshing and timeless manner, extends the canon of concrete art into the present. The exhibition is accompanied by a comprehensive publication, released by the publisher Kehrer Verlag.
