Benjamin Saurer will perform an organ concert in the St.-Lamberti-Kirche located in the historical city center of Oldenburg in conjunction with his first institutional solo exhibition at the Oldenburger Kunstverein. The playing of liturgical organ compositions is one of the many forms of artistic exploration implemented by Benjamin Saurer. He examines forms of religious symbolism not only within the confines of music, but also in architecture, the printed word and religious imagery. His works incorporate motives of Christian iconography as symbols upon which systems and factors are established and employed to scrutinize the power of contemporary art, its dogmas and its doctrines. The concert connects the social subsystems of religion, popular belief, and art to the mutually intertwined and elemental terms of „faith “and „belief“. After the recital illustrations of didactical typologies will be exhibited at the Oldenburger Kunstverein transforming it into a space in which typically sacred canons of „deconstruction” and „rejection “ in contemporary art will be revealed. Saueres works not only presents a diverse range of artistic adroitness, but exhibits the complexity of culturally incorporated systems of belief anchored in historical contexts. Printing, dyeing and painting are other media employed by the trained church musician who later studied painting at the Städelschule in Frankfurt.
