Center of the World is an edition of 3.
Its presence at any given position defines the center of the world.
The object placed under the globe can be changed for any item the curator or owner desires.
Joav BarEl was a pivotal figure in the Israeli avant-garde of the 1960s and ’70s. An artist, lecturer, art critic, and cultural commentator at large, he had a profound impact on his generation. Barel received posthumous solo exhibitions at Frieze New York (2013), and Tempo Rubato, Tel Aviv (2012); In 2004, BarEl had a retrospective exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. He participated in group exhibitions held at: the Artists’ Association, Tel Aviv (1972); Tel Aviv Museum of Art (1971, 1968, and 1966); Hanegev Museum, Beer Sheva, Israel (1965); and Haifa Museum of Art (1960 and 1958).
