Christian Kosmas Mayer, Another city, not my own, 2007, digital slide show, 24 min
There are thousands of street dogs in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. They live on their own and explore the city looking for food.
I equipped one of these street dogs with a digital camera that takes one photo automatically every minute.
The digital slide show arising from this project is a documented dérive from a dog’s view, a specific view onto a city that is not my own, taken by an inhabitant that isn’t aware of the fact that it is taking pictures. It is the attempt to notice the way in which certain areas, streets, or buildings resonate with states of mind, inclinations, and desires, and to seek out reasons for movement other than those for which an environment was designed.
